ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge entered it penultimate weekend on last Saturday. Racing on the “newly constructed” Brooklyn street circuit, the location of the New York ePrix in real world became the 5th different circuit staging Formula E’s online championship on rFactor2. NIO 333 saw a turnaround in fortune this weekend. Oliver Turvey finished in 9th, back into the points. Ma Qinghua drove a great race from the back and finished just outside of the points.
The 2.374km New York circuit requires high level techniques from drivers, and with limited overtaking opportunities, Qualifying is vital in getting a decent finish. Turvey continued his consistency in the shootout, finished 10th. But due to a penalty from last weekend, the British driver started from 15th. Affected by another technical issue, Ma could only manage 20th in Qualifying.
Despite starting from low grid positions, both drivers were able to gain some significant places in the early phase of the start. Turvey jumped into the top 10, Ma also improved to the midfield from 19th. In the end, Turvey finished 9th, collected 2 more points for the virtual championship. Ma finished 11th, just one step to the points.
Next week, ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge will have its last round and finish the virtual season with a double header. Chinese fans are invited to Race League’s Go Kart Track (Songjiang, Shanghai) for the live event, interact with the team and enjoy a weekend’s experience of motorsport.
