The 2019-2020 ABB FIA Formula E championship finished the second part of its Berlin decider at the Tempelhof airport. NIO 333 FE team has shown improvements in result with Daniel Abt finishing 15th in Round 8, the best finish thus far during the busy Season Finale. Oliver Turvey finished in both rounds.
Formula E teams are no strangers to the traditional layout of the Berlin Tempelhof airport circuit. This 2.355km, 10-corner circuit has been a fixture in the last 4 seasons and has since become a classic in the history of Formula E. A familiar circuit also means set-up limits can be extracted relatively quickly by the teams. NIO 333 continued its upward trajectory shown during Round 6&7, although still a few steps away from scoring points, the experience gained by both cars is critical for future developments.
During the last 2 rounds (Round 8&9), local hero Abt showed his expertise around the Berlin track after settling into his new team. The 2018 Berlin ePrix winner led the team’s charge in both races, especially during Saturday’s round 8 when he finished 15th, only 2.7 seconds from the top 10. This is the team’s best performance since the Santiago ePrix. Turvey faced few difficulties during the weekend, but he still managed to improve a few positions with the help of race tactics.
There are now only 2 rounds left in this extraordinary Formula E season and the teams will be facing a brand new, elongated Tempelhof airport circuit. With the complexity of the track potentially spicing up the competition, and the unpredictable nature of Formula E, hope the improved NIO 333 team finally get a breakthrough.
