These beautiful glass flowers came to life during Covid Lockdown by my friend and talented glass artist, Michelle Judge, who lives and works in Katikati, New Zealand, as a Natural Therapist.
All things nature have always been my thing, especially Daisies. So when I popped by to admire these beauties, I simply had to share not only the finished pieces that sprang from challenging times, but also the root of the inspiration behind them.
Like most of us, Michelle’s schedule changed during Lockdown where she found herself working from home implementing change for an essential service, and in-between Zoom calls, enjoyed scribbling thoughts and doodles in the form of flowers. Several months later, those same flower doodles that flowed from her pen flowed into life and her stunning glass art pieces were born.
Her exhibition includes various pieces that depict the emotional experiences that many of us can relate to, and more movingly, Michelle created an individual glass rose that represents a loving memory for each life lost to Covid here in New Zealand.
Michelle reflects, “What started as a bleak ‘War of The Worlds’ tone ended up being quite light and cheery, which actually mirrored my experience of Lockdown and being in isolation. My days fell into a rhythm that brought a peace and tranquility that I had rarely allowed for myself before”.
Her clever play on words created a title with a bittersweet twist, that many of us have and still are, experiencing. Each individual piece also has their own title and if you’re interested in learning more about Michelle’s work, you can get in touch via her Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/MichelleRelaxIn/
