Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co has brought to market Claire’s Newsagents, a no-tie, Mace-branded convenience store located in the Haydon Bridge area of Hexham.

Popular with visitors and locals-alike, the store is ideally situated on the main street, within the centre of the village, alongside the local train station, pharmacy, and hotels. Hexham is well-known by explorers of the region, thanks to its proximity to Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland National Park, and the North Pennines. The shop also benefits from its proximity to the A69, which connects Hexham to Carlisle and Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The store has been operated by Jacqueline Marshall and her daughter Claire since 2008. They have decided to sell their business in order to enjoy retirement. Claire comments, “This store is the hub of the community.  It’s like a tourist information place or a one stop shop.  The locals collect the Parish magazine from the shop, anything you want to know in Haydon Bridge, this is the place to go. Travellers call in from the A69 asking for directions and locals pop in for the gossip!”

The sale of Claire’s Newsagents presents a great opportunity for somebody to take on a very well-established business in an excellent geographical area. Included in the sale is a one bedroom and a separate two-bedroom flat, which offers a new owner potential to add additional revenue by letting them out.

Andrew Birnie, Director at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “This would make an ideal first time buy for those looking to leave existing job to work for themselves.  The flats would provide a home in this popular part of Northumberland or could even be let out.

“No previous experience is needed to run a newsagent, and there are so many benefits from running your own business financially, and the satisfaction of being your own boss.  We have specialist commercial mortgage brokers that can help secure a loan to buy this and similar businesses.  Just give us a call to find out more”.

Christie & Co are offering the freehold interest in Claire’s Newsagents at an asking price of £375,000.
