The construction division of The Premier Group, a leading high-spec construction and maintenance company, has recently won two awards for the firm’s approach to mental health awareness and support.

The Swansea-based company received the proactive approach to mental health in construction award by Artelia in Twickenham Stadium last month (September 2018). The Premier Group was awarded the accolade in recognition of its practical approach towards mental health in construction while working on a contract for the engineering firm.

The Premier Group also received an innovation award by BP during September for its innovative approach towards raising awareness of mental health. The company was provided with the award for the mental health focused event it held during a contract it recently undertook for BP in Swindon.

The Premier Group is a company that is dedicated to raising awareness and being proactive to influence positive change in the mental health of its staff and stakeholders. This year, the company joined Mates in Mind – a charity that aims to raise awareness, address the stigma of poor mental health and improve positive mental wellbeing in the UK construction industry – to enhance its efforts in this area.

The Premier Group’s dedication to mental health in construction complements the company’s values, which are focused on its people, safety and solutions. The company also runs an employee assistance programme and health and wellbeing calendar, to ensure awareness and support around staff wellbeing is continuously prioritised.

Steve Evans, managing director of the construction division of The Premier Group, said:

“We are thrilled to have received these two awards in recognition of the importance we place on mental health at our company and the wider construction community. We are pleased that the actions we pursue to raise awareness of mental health have been effective and show we are making progressive steps to improving how mental health is addressed in our sector.

“We are well aware that a stigma surrounding mental health still exists, particularly within the construction and fuel maintenance industry. We are confident that by continuing to work together, encourage open conversations about mental health and address the challenges people face, we can achieve a vastly improved industry that gives people the support they need to maintain positive wellbeing.”

The Premier Group is a leading UK independent fuel engineering company that operates as two main divisions: construction and servicing. The company works with many major national brands including BP, Esso, Shell, MFG, MRH, Rontec, Asda and Tesco.
