Tesla Model S enters used EV top 10 for first time

Surge in number of used electric cars for sale – twice as many as a year ago

Tesla’s Model S was the 10th most-advertised electric vehicle (EV) on DesperateSeller.co.uk in January 2020 – the first time a Tesla has entered the top 10. Nissan’s Leaf was the most-advertised EV, followed by the Renault Zoe and Jaguar I Pace. The 10 most-advertised EVs on DesperateSeller.co.uk in January 2020 were:

  1. Nissan Leaf
  2. Renault Zoe
  3. Jaguar I Pace
  4. Volkswagen Golf
  5. BMW i3
  6. Nissan ENV200
  7. Audi E Tron
  8. Hyundai Ioniq
  9. Hyundai Kona
  10. Tesla Model S

Rod Joseph, director at DesperateSeller.co.uk, said: “The Model S entering our top 10 most-advertised EVs marks yet another breakthrough for Tesla in the UK. The fact that they’re becoming readily available second-hand is fantastic news for the used sector because their appeal goes beyond automotive – they attract tech-heads who don’t want any old battery-powered car, they want a Tesla. With the Model 3 being named UK Car of the Year 2020, it’s been a great few weeks for Elon Musk’s brand on this side of the Atlantic.

“Over the last 12 months we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of used electric cars for sale, up from 1.1% to 2.3% of all vehicles advertised. From hatchbacks to SUVs to vans, there are now attractive EV options across a wide range of body styles and price points. That said, it should be recognised that petrol engines are likely to remain dominant for several years yet, so used buyers need to weigh up what’s right for them.”

Launched in 2001, DesperateSeller.co.uk is one of the UK’s leading car classifieds websites with around 300,000 used vehicles for sale at any one time. Still independently owned and run, it is part of the eBay Motors network.
