Flying Seagull end-of-term Spectacular streaming live from London’s Applecart Arts theatre – free to local primary schools

To celebrate the start of the school summer holiday, children’s entertainment charity The Flying Seagull Project will stream its end-of-term Spectacular live from Applecart Arts theatre in East London at 2pm on Wednesday 15 July 2020.

The Flying Seagull Spectacular is the story of a redundant lighthouse keeper who embarks on a highly interactive adventure involving pirates, magic, clowning and music. It is designed for children aged 4-11, but younger/older children and even adults frequently dissolve into laughter.

Having played to packed houses before the Covid-19 crisis, the show has been specially adapted with social distancing for the performers and new e-resources for schools and parents/carers.

Ash Perrin (clown name Bash), founder of The Flying Seagull Project, said: “Most children have been in lockdown for months so our aim is, as always, to get them laughing with a live experience they can share with their classmates. What’s different this year is that it is going to be online. We’re using multiple cameras, there’ll be engaging pre-show activities like popcorn-box making and a post-show discussion. Basically, we’re doing everything we can in these strange times to ensure that children aren’t forgotten and that the important end-of-year milestone is marked with a rich, memorable and fun live show.”

Local primary schools (in London, E13) and organisations working with vulnerable families can access the livestream free of charge. Further tickets are available nationwide at a cost of £3 per child, with reductions for group bookings. Any profits will be used to fund The Flying Seagull Project’s ongoing work entertaining underprivileged children in the UK and worldwide.
