17 May 2019: One of the UK’s leading food-to-go development businesses scooped a top gong at a glittering industry awards held in London, while members of its team also won or were highly commended in a host of other categories.
Taking place at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel, The Sammies, or British Sandwich & Food-to-Go Industry Awards, brought together pioneers and leading lights from right across the sector to recognise what it regarded as ‘the industry heroes’ in a range of categories from best En-Route Sandwich Retailer to Best New Sandwich.
Having worked on one of the most high-profile food-to-go launches seen in the UK for many years, The FSC Group, which has its headquarters in Flax Bourton, North Somerset, was presented with the ‘En-Route Retailer of the Year’ award following its work on the brand-new Jamie Oliver‘deli2go’ range for Shell.
The judges were impressed by the FSC Group’s ability to innovate and work to very tight deadline having been given only a six-month time frame to develop and implement 85 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) across five product categories on behalf of the original Naked Chef.
According to Jeremy Simpson, commercial director of the FSC Group, it was his team’s close working relationship with the client that resulted in the new product range being successfully launched in early 2019 and is now being rolled out across the 500 plus Shell service stations across the UK, with the FSC team being responsible for the on-going delivery and food standards.
The FSC Group’s development chefs also received recognition in The Sandwich Designer of the Year competition where David Worthington won the, ‘Royal Greenland MSC Cooked and Peeled Cold Water Prawns’ category with his ‘Prawn Avo Quinoa Summer Body Rolls’.
David alongside colleague Stefano Vigo were also High Commended for their entries in two additional categories.
Jeremy Simpson said: “It’s always a privilege to receive accolades from your peers and although our focus is on client relationships and product development this was a particularly nice award to receive considering the pressure we were under to deliver.
“It has been a privilege to be involved right the way through the process with both the Shell UK team and the folks from Jamie Oliver. It was a huge challenge to deliver this transformational product range and we are looking forward to a long future working together.”
Working out of its new innovation centre in the village of Flax Bourton – a converted chapel near Bristol – the 20-strong team were able to research and test the new range across the hot and chilled sandwich, chilled snacks, hot savoury and baked confectionary ranges.
James Simpson, managing director of The FSC Group added: “Within the food-to-go sector one of the most important measurements of a company’s competence and success is how well it can innovate and come up with new product ideas.
“Our new HQ was certainly put through its paces with this project, but not only did it come out with flying colours, it was an important visual demonstration, not only of our commitment to, but also our competence in innovation.
“I’d also like to congratulate both David and Stefano who did brilliantly well and is a great demonstration on the depth of skill and expertise we have at The FSC Group.”
