NIO 333 FE Team would like to confirm a new addition to the team ahead of the 5th round of the 2019-2020 FIA ABB Formula E championship. Rising Chinese star Daniel CAO joins the team as the development driver after finishing in the top 3 in the 2019 F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA and will enjoy his first taste of all electric single-seater car at the Moroccan circuit.

Born in Shanghai, the 18-year-old youngster started his karting career at the age of 6 and quickly made his name in the Asian motorsport community after entering single-seater series. Daniel’s CV includes championship winning seasons in 2017-2018 Formula 4 South East Asia Championship certified by FIA and 2018 Asian Formula Renault Series. Last year, the Chinese driver finished 3rd in the F3 Asian Championship with multiple victories.

Signing the future of Chinese motorsport is the latest step of the team operated by Chinese motorsport industry giant Lisheng Racing Co. LTD of its 333 Racing Academy which was launched by the team in December 2019. This initiative marks an exciting start for the future endeavour of Chinese motorsport.

Joining Daniel in the sister NIO-005 FE car will be 3 times FIA F2 race winner, former Ferrari Drivers Academy member Antonio Fuoco. This will be the Italian driver’s first Formula E outing since setting third quickest time in the Marrakech rookie test last season.

Daniel CAO, Development Driver, NIO 333 FE team
"Sustainable energy will undoubtably be the future of motorsport and I am happy to join NIO 333 FE team, a Chinese team. The team is the inarguable Formula E champion and even though we are going through a tough period, I know the new management team is working tirelessly to bring the team back to where it should be. I hope to race for the team at the tracks around the world in the coming years, and I will put in my best effort. I can’t wait to reach another step in my racing career. "

Vincent Wang, CEO, NIO 333 FE team
"I am very excited to welcome Daniel into the NIO 333 Formula E family. It is our latest step of the team’s academy. As a rising star, Daniel has proven his ability in the Asian motorsport community with impressive results. We hope he is able to quickly settle into the style of electric racing, especially the difference in driving style, and getting fully prepared to fight at the top level in potential race opportunities in the future. We also hope this is an encouragement for fellow Chinese young drivers to keep putting their hard work into motorsport."
