New Zealand’s Graham Dingle Foundation have been out and about in the local community recently.

August saw the beginning of Starsopoly with the Stars students from Otumoetai College. Starsopoly brings the community into the school with organisations ranging from local businesses, faith-based youth groups, community and volunteer organizations and sporting clubs having squares on a GIANT monopoly board.

Year 13 Peer mentors escorted their Year 9 mentees around the board and completed many activities, learning about and connecting with others within their community.

Meanwhile our Otumoetai College Project K kids have been out and about doing all sorts of work in the community over the last week and a half for their Community Challenge module. They connected with our friends at Good Neighbour and helped out with some gardening for a local who had injured herself and was on crutches. Our team put in a lot of effort and did a great job. Ka pai, ata mahi!

Otumoetai College student Jurnee commented, "One of the highlights for me over the last eight days was working with 11 other students going around the community and helping people, including an injured lady, by doing her lawns and the outside of her house. It made me feel really good when I saw a smile on her face. We also went and paid a visit to the retirement village and celebrated a 105th birthday! Overall, I've really loved doing the community challenge and having the chance to be with all these amazing people every day. Thank you to Dan, Alex and Karyn for their help and transport and also to our mentors that will be mentoring us for the next twleve months."

We love seeing the awesome connections they are making within our community, volunteering in service to others and recently, they also helped-out at The Salvation Army Te Puke and are working on some other service projects.

Good stuff guys!
