Around 400,000 journeys are made by taxi or private hire vehicles in London each year – that’s 1% of all journeys in the capital.

The taxi and private hire industry is very competitive and employs thousands of Londoners. But technological advances and legal and political disputes have affected the sector in recent years.

  • How can standards be improved?
  • What are the effects of ride-sharing services on the market?

  • How can new taxi drivers be supported?

  • How can we prevent/deal with illegal and unsafe cabs?

The London Assembly Transport Committee is investigating how to best support taxis and private hire vehicles. This is the first in a series of meetings to discuss how to keep the industry going and how to ensure standards are maintained for passengers.

The following guests will attend the meeting:

  • Steve Wright, Licensed Private Hire Car Association (LPHCA)
  • Robert Scott, GLH

  • Andrew Wescott, Addison Lee

Then around 11.30am:

  • Mick Walker, London Cab Drivers Club (LCDC)
  • Trevor Merralls, United Cabbies Group (UCG)

  • Steve McNamara, Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA)

  • Alan Miller, London Suburban Taxi-drivers Coalition

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 9 October from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend
