Around 400,000 journeys are made by taxi or private hire vehicles in London each year – that’s 1% of all journeys in the capital.
The taxi and private hire industry is very competitive and employs thousands of Londoners. But technological advances and legal and political disputes have affected the sector in recent years.
The London Assembly Transport Committee is investigating how to best support taxi
s and private hire vehicles. This is the first in a series of meetings to discuss how to keep the industry going and how to ensure standards are maintained for passengers.
