Maximus is a black man. Maximus is an author, a poet, and a thought-provoking writer. Growing up in London and now aged 40, Maximus has experienced pain in life. Through his pen, this pain is shared; released through words that anyone can appreciate.
Maximus is a self-confessed light worker; he is not afraid of hard work and never allows work to exhaust him or consume him. There is a gentleness in his demeanour and outlook on life and he believes his gift of storytelling is a gift that needs to be shared because it is so powerful.
In his 40-year life, Maximus has encountered many people and cultures. He has been confronted by the racial tensions the world is grappling with. He’s been challenged by the many social, political and economic issues the world is dealing with. Whilst his peers, friends and even strangers found worthy and rewarding careers in this crazy world, Maximus was unable to conform or find a path the modern world defines as worthwhile. To Maximus, this was never an issue, and it was something that allowed him to understand himself better, understand others and share his stories.
The world was and is confusing, complex, and far too interesting for a straight-line path to be found. Maximus found himself on a journey that took him to the Middle East and beyond, meeting people of different cultures and seeing their stories through his own eyes. Without prejudice yet with a Black Man’s soul, the people, and places on his journey of life compelled him to tell their stories. Not blinded by media and its stereotypes and headlines that are designed to make money, Maximus began to translate the reality of life. His storytelling paints a picture that is far away from the Sky news, CNN and newspaper headlines the world consumes. Maximus slows down, pauses and tackles the everyday issues that every human has in common.
He sees his Black Man’s pain in everyone and in the world itself. Instead of being bitter and angry, he chooses to heal rather than simply challenge or fight. He takes a view point the world needs to appreciate on everything, including racism, sexism, knife crime, abuse, and everything in between and challenges the status quo. A born storyteller with a creative gift, the words and thinking of Maximus are a gift to the world.
Poetry from Pain: A Black Man’s Story is a compilation of compelling stories that Maximus himself has lived. It’s not just the story of a black person; the poems and stories apply to any of any race or nationality. Maximus has experienced life from a black person’s perspective, he has spent time with people, talking and listening. His poetry and stories may come from one side of a painful racial divide that is tearing the world apart yet the emotion, the truth and the facts can be understood to its true neutrality. Black, White and anything in between, Poetry from Pain: A Black Man’s Story hits home through unashamed honesty that does not always win, but through perseverance does change hearts, minds, and lives.
